One Last Hell of a Series
Posted on May 04, 2016
Press Release - April 29th, 2016
As the iconic Squamish Test of Metal mountain bike race (presented by Nesters Market, Squamish) enters its final year, race organizers have partnered with the Pemberton NIMBY Fifty (presented by Chromag Bikes) to resurrect Hell of a Series, for one last time.
To qualify for Hell of a Series, participants must complete all four of the series races: Gearjammer (May 7), NIMBY Fifty (May 28), Test of Metal (June 18), and JABR (September 17). The purpose of Hell of a Series is to recognize those individuals who are both willing and able to complete all four of these epic races.
Series winners will be determined using a points system whereby participants’ three “best” races will be counted, and points will be accrued based on individual’s placing in each race relative to other series participants.
The winners will be announced at Just Another Bike Race (JABR) on September 17, 2016. Ongoing results for the series will be posted online following the event at Nimby Fifty
Completing all of these races is no easy task and for this reason ,organizers are planning to award all qualifying participants with a special keepsake (sponsorship details for the awards are still being finalized).
2016 is not the first time the Squamish and Pemberton bike race organizers have come together to host the Hell of a Series. In 2011, NIMBY Fifty joined the Hell of a Series for a season, however, thereafter the Hell of a Series continued but included Squamish races only.
While the future of mountain biking in the Sea to Sky corridor certainly looks bright, what lies ahead for marathon cross-country mountain bike racing remains uncertain. With the resurrection of Hell of a Series one thing is for sure: 2016 will be a season for the record books.
